NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework for the following unit(s) of competency:
UETDRRF002 Perform EWP rescue
UETTDRRF08 Perform EWP controlled descent escape
COURSE DETAILS
This course covers the performance of rescue and elevated work platform (EWP) controlled descent escape procedures from an elevated work platform (EWP) in the workplace. The units UETDRRF002 Perform EWP rescue and UETTDRRF08 Perform EWP controlled descent escape specify the mandatory requirements of rescue from a raised EWP by a work party member on the ground and of self-rescue and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions.
COURSE CONTENT
The following subjects will be covered as part of the training:
Prepare to perform EWP rescue or EWP controlled descent escape procedures
- Instruction in hazards and risk control measures for specific work areas and work activities are identified and obtained
- Tools and emergency equipment are checked for safety, functionality and placed in an accessible location to facilitate response and rescue according to established procedures
Carry out EWP controlled descent escape
- Workplace procedures and work instructions for controlling risk are followed
- Workplace procedures for evacuating an EWP basket employing emergency descent equipment are followed
- The worksite is secured and entry controlled until appropriate authorities inspect and release the site
Carry out EWP rescue procedures
- Workplace procedures and work instructions for controlling risk are followed
- Workplace procedures for removing the victim, where necessary, from contact with or in vicinity of live apparatus and lowering the EWP to the ground are followed
- Workplace procedures for removing the victim from the EWP are followed
- Workplace procedures for carrying out cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), if required at the site, and treatment, where necessary, by medical professionals are followed
- The worksite is secured and entry controlled until appropriate authorities inspect and release the site
Complete the EWP controlled descent escape or EWP rescue procedure
- Processes for reporting to accidents and/or incidents to authorised personnel are confirmed in accordance with established procedures
DURATION
1 half-day course (approximately 5 hours)
DELIVERY MODE
Face to face
There are no pre-reading requirements. All content is covered in class as part of the training.
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Students will be required to complete a written theory assessment as well as a practical demonstration assessment.
Theory Assessment
Mixture of multiple choice and short answer questions. Student will be required to write down their own answers.

Practical Assessment
Each student will be required to participate in at least two practical scenarios which will assess their ability to:
- apply workplace OH&S requirements, including the use of risk control measures
- confirm the function of emergency equipment to facilitate rescue
- access controls and lower the EWP in accordance with equipment instructions & workplace procedures
- remove the victim from the EWP to the ground
- involvement of external emergency services as appropriate
- adhere to safe approach distances (SAD) appropriate to EWP controlled descent escape
- fitting of rescue equipment for a self-controlled descent and removing self to safe location/place of safety
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Course Pre-Requisite
Students enrolling into this course must hold current competency in HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Age Requirements
Students must be 16 years of age or older. Participants under 18 years of age will be required to provide parental consent to attend training.
Fitness Requirements
Students must be relatively fit and able to perform the activities outlined in the Assessment Requirements in order to be accurately assessed and deemed competent.
Given the nature of the practical assessment, students must be at a minimum fit to climb and crawl, and not have a fear of heights.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Sound reading and writing skills required to undertake the written assessment. Reasonable adjustment may be applicable on a case-by-case basis. Please get in contact with us if you have any questions regarding the minimum LLN requirements.

Can you deliver CPR & EWP rescue together?
Yes, we can customise the training delivery to each client’s needs and can definitely include HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation as part of the EWP rescue & controlled self-descent training to make up one full-day course (approximately 8 hours).

How often should I complete EWP rescue training?
EWP rescue competency does not formally have an expiry date.
However, it is best practice to refresh your training every 12 months (or in line with your workplace procedures).
The “refresher” training is also a half-day course.

Yes! We can definitely deliver workplace training. Please give us a call at 1300 001 201 to discuss your training needs further and receive a quote for on-site training.
Do you take large group bookings for EWP rescue training?
Due to the high risk nature of this course, we recommend class sizes to be no more than 8 students.

COVID-19 Management
The health and wellbeing of our personnel and fellow students at ISH24 is our number one priority.
ISH24 will continue to deliver training in a face-to-face environment with the following measures in place:
- Face masks are available to all students.
- Additional hand sanitisation products are available to all visitors.
- Additional cleaning procedures are implemented at all training facilities.
- Ad hoc COVID-Safe measures might be implemented in response to rise in infections or based on recommendations from regulatory and governing bodies.
