NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework for the following unit(s) of competency:

COURSE DETAILS
Our Fire Extinguisher Training equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to safely respond to small fires in the workplace.
The Unit of Competency PUAFER008 – Confine small emergencies in a facility covers the correct use of portable fire extinguishers and basic fire emergency procedures to help protect people, property, and business continuity.
COURSE CONTENT
The following subjects will be covered as part of the training:
1. Fire Safety Fundamentals
- Types of fires and fire classifications
- Workplace fire hazards and common ignition sources
- Fire prevention strategies
2. Fire Extinguisher Knowledge
- Types of portable fire extinguishers and their applications
- Selection of appropriate extinguishers for different fire scenarios
- Storage, maintenance, and inspection requirements
3. Emergency Response Procedures
- Initial response to a fire
- Evacuation procedures and communication protocols
- Role of fire wardens and staff in emergency situations
4. Practical Exercises
- Safe handling and operation of portable fire extinguishers
- Demonstration and supervised use of extinguishers on simulated fires
- Application of procedures in workplace-specific scenarios
DURATION
Approximately 3 hours
Training is delivered on site and can be adjusted depending on class size and prior participant experience.
DELIVERY MODE
Face to face
There are no pre-reading requirements. All content is covered in class as part of the training.
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Students will be required to complete a written theory assessment as well as a practical demonstration assessment.
Theory Assessment
Mixture of multiple choice and short answer questions. Student will be required to write down their own answers.
For students with learning disabilities or lack of English proficiency, reasonable adjustment may be applicable on a case-by-case basis. Please give us a call on 1300 001 201 to discuss your specific learning needs.
Practical Assessment
Each student will be required to participate in at least one practical scenario which will assess their ability to:
- Correctly identify fire types and select appropriate extinguishers for a given scenario
- Safely operate a portable fire extinguisher on a simulated fire
- Apply correct techniques for fire suppression and containment
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Course Pre-Requisite
No formal pre-requisite requirements apply.
Age Requirements
Students must be 16 years of age or older. Participants under 18 years of age will be required to provide parental consent to attend training.
Fitness Requirements
Given the nature of the practical assessment, students must be fit and able to squat, bend over and perform chest compression on a CPR manikin on the floor.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Sound reading and writing skills required to undertake the written assessment. Reasonable adjustment may be applicable on a case-by-case basis. Please get in contact with us if you have any questions regarding the minimum LLN requirements.
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Students attending this course require a Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you do not have a USI, you will need to get one from the USI Website: https://www.usi.gov.au/students/create-usi

Suitable Clothing
Please arrive in suitable clothing (enclosed footwear mandatory, long sleeve shirts and long pants are recommended)

Can you deliver Fire Extinguisher & Fire Warden training together?
Yes, we can customise the training delivery to each client’s needs and can deliver a training course that includes a combination of any of the following units of competency:
- PUAFER005 – Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
- PUAFER006 – Lead an emergency control organisation
- PUAFER008 – Confine small emergencies in a facility

How often should I complete Fire Safety training?
Fire Extinguisher or Fire Warden competency does not formally have an expiry date.
However, it is best practice to refresh your training every 12 months (or in line with your workplace procedures).
How often do you deliver Fire Safety courses?
Fire Extinguisher courses are currently scheduled upon request only.

Can you provide Fire Safety training within our workplace?
Yes! We can definitely deliver workplace training. Please give us a call at 1300 001 201 to discuss your training needs further and receive a quote for on-site training.
Do you take large group bookings?
Our standard student to trainer ratio allows for max 10-12 students per class.
For on-site training, we may be able to deliver training to larger groups; however, that is dependent on the type of training being delivered and the size of the available facilities.
