NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework for the following unit(s) of competency:

COURSE DETAILS
Our nationally recognised Fire Warden course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to operate within a workplace Emergency Control Organisation (ECO).
The unit of competency PUAFER005 – Operate as part of an emergency control organisation focuses on pre‑emergency planning, taking appropriate action during an incident, and assisting with post‑emergency activities in accordance with facility emergency procedures and relevant Australian Standards.
COURSE CONTENT
The following subjects will be covered as part of the training:
Emergency Planning and Preparedness
Participants will learn how to:
- Understand the role and structure of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO)
- Access and interpret facility emergency response procedures
- Contribute to pre‑emergency planning activities
- Identify and document emergency equipment deficiencies
Response During Emergencies
Training covers how to:
- Recognise and respond to emergency signals, alarms and warnings
- Wear and use ECO identification correctly
- Assess emergency situations and implement response procedures
- Assist occupants, including those requiring assistance
- Operate emergency communications systems
- Take actions consistent with workplace emergency procedures
Post‑Emergency Activities
Participants will also learn to:
- Support post‑emergency tasks in collaboration with facility managers
- Implement safe re‑entry and recovery processes following an emergency
DURATION
Approximately 3-4 hours
Training is delivered on site and can be adjusted depending on class size and prior participant experience.
DELIVERY MODE
Face to face
There are no pre-reading requirements. All content is covered in class as part of the training.
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Students will be required to complete a written theory assessment as well as a practical demonstration assessment.
Theory Assessment
Mixture of multiple choice and short answer questions. Student will be required to write down their own answers.
For students with learning disabilities or lack of English proficiency, reasonable adjustment may be applicable on a case-by-case basis. Please give us a call on 1300 001 201 to discuss your specific learning needs.
Practical Assessment
Each student will be required to participate in at least one practical scenario which will assess their ability to:
- Operate effectively as part of an Emergency Control Organisation
- Undertake pre‑emergency planning in line with facility procedures
- Respond safely during simulated emergency scenarios
- Complete relevant workplace documentation, including:
- Emergency equipment fault logs
- Emergency evacuation and debrief forms
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Course Pre-Requisite
No formal pre-requisite requirements apply.
Age Requirements
Students must be 16 years of age or older. Participants under 18 years of age will be required to provide parental consent to attend training.
Fitness Requirements
Given the nature of the practical assessment, students must be fit and able to squat, bend over and perform chest compression on a CPR manikin on the floor.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Sound reading and writing skills required to undertake the written assessment. Reasonable adjustment may be applicable on a case-by-case basis. Please get in contact with us if you have any questions regarding the minimum LLN requirements.
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Students attending this course require a Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you do not have a USI, you will need to get one from the USI Website: https://www.usi.gov.au/students/create-usi

Suitable Clothing
Please arrive in suitable clothing (enclosed footwear mandatory, long sleeve shirts and long pants are recommended)

Can you deliver Fire Extinguisher & Fire Warden training together?
Yes, we can customise the training delivery to each client’s needs and can deliver a training course that includes a combination of any of the following units of competency:
- PUAFER005 – Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
- PUAFER006 – Lead an emergency control organisation
- PUAFER008 – Confine small emergencies in a facility

How often should I complete Fire Safety training?
Fire Extinguisher or Fire Warden competency does not formally have an expiry date.
However, it is best practice to refresh your training every 12 months (or in line with your workplace procedures).
How often do you deliver Fire Safety courses?
Fire Extinguisher courses are currently scheduled upon request only.

Can you provide Fire Safety training within our workplace?
Yes! We can definitely deliver workplace training. Please give us a call at 1300 001 201 to discuss your training needs further and receive a quote for on-site training.
Do you take large group bookings?
Our standard student to trainer ratio allows for max 10-12 students per class.
For on-site training, we may be able to deliver training to larger groups; however, that is dependent on the type of training being delivered and the size of the available facilities.
